At the suggestion of everyone, I took the river cruise through San Antonio’s famous River Walk and learned all about the history of this amazing place.

The cruise takes 35 minutes and the guide explains a lot of the history of the River Walk and interesting stories and insights about each landmark you see.

For example, the Hilton Palacio del Rio was built for the 1968 HemisFair World’s Fair, but they didn’t have enough time to build it onsite. So they built all the rooms individually about 8 miles away, complete with furnishings, artwork, plumbing, electricity, and even bibles in the drawers. Then each room was hoisted into place in 46 days (it’s a 21-story, 500-room hotel). They opened early, five days before the fair started.
